SUMMARY:Lorena Carrington - Nature Collage and Secret Codes Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The crew at Squishy Minnie are so excited to welcome Lorena Carrington to our store where our favourite little folk will be guided in the creation of a collage using nature and to develop secret codes to sypher! The cost is $17.00 for which the kids will receive a signed copy of Lorena’s book\, Leaf Letters\, as well as take home their creation. \nLorena Carrington is an illustrator and writer with a background in fine arts\, photography and design. She has worked on story collections\, anthologies and picture books\, and has also created a number of cover illustrations and designs. She is the recipient of the 2020 Australian Fairy Tale Society award\, for her “outstanding contribution to the field of Australian Fairy Tales” and a May Gibbs Creative Time Fellowship for 2023. Leaf Letters is her first junior novel. \nLeaf Letters: \n“Nine-year-old Hazel Bird is happiest on her own\, photographing the tiny wild worlds in her neighbourhood bushland. But then she meets Cole\, a boy with a hundred pockets and a strange and marvellous way of talking. Together they find hidden treasure and a handwritten book of secret codes? Can you help them solve the puzzles and discover the mysterious child who buried it so many years ago? Written and illustrated by Lorena Carrington\, this is a unique\, interactive story for young readers told in words and pictures\, with coded messages to decipher and mysteries to solve.” \nPlease check out her work here: https://lorenacarrington.com/

SUMMARY:Q &A with Anna Johnston
DESCRIPTION:Anna Johnston will be doing a Q & A session at Squishy Minnie Bookstore\, Wednesday evening\, 24th July at 6.30pm. Anna’s first novel\, The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife\, see here\, is a funny and charming book that could melt even the hardest of hearts. It’s about an elderly man\, exceptionally kind but lonely and facing homelessness\, that gets the odd opportunity to take the place of cranky old Bernard at Wattle River Nursing Home. Anna has a strong connection to the area as her husband’s whole family actually live in Kyneton.

SUMMARY:Q&A with Sandie Docker
DESCRIPTION:Older women are the fastest growing demographic of homelessness in Australia. Sandie Docker explores this in her new book\, The Lyrebird Lake Ladies Choir. Sandie will be braving the Kyenton cold this July. We’ll be hosting a Q&A session with her on Wednesday\, 17th July at 6.30pm. It will be cold\, so we’ll have the heater blasting\, and warming beverages and nibbles to keep the cold at bay. RSVPs are encouraged to help us cater. Message us on the socials or pop into the store. Come by yourself\, with a friend\, or bring your book club.
